your conviction does not convince me

December 1, 2010 by Lidia-Anain

There is so much I have done that I did not think I’d ever do never mind all the things I said I’d do but didn’t. When I hear people say, “I’d NEVER do that,” followed by a judgment of the person who did said thing I wonder how that person truly knows that they wouldn’t do that? At the same time, how do we know we will do everything we say we will? A brand spanking new year is around the corner and millions of people are making resolutions based on just this…what they won’t and what they will do. Most. Will. Fail. Including. Myself.

Are resolutions pointless?

Improving conditions, solving problems and determining a positive course of action so that you can live a better life are never pointless but are they feasible? I won’t sugarcoat things for you…the truth is that for many people what they want to change most is beyond them. Go ahead by all means write a list of ten things you resolve to change about yourself in 2011. In fact, forget shooting for the sky aren’t there footsteps on the moon? Why not go for twenty or fifty things? The more the merrier, right? You know you’ll get to definitely achieve a handful of those resolutions if you stack the numbers on your side, yet, you will fail at life. Not because you lack strength, fortitude, resolve, determination, perseverance, or tenacity but because you lack belief in setting just ONE goal. You don’t have the audacity it takes to put just one thing on that list of resolution(s).

The audacious recklessly dare to put ALL their eggs in ONE basket!

The greats all recklessly dared to obsess about their passion. They followed their one true passion in the face of intimidation and doubt all while boldly giving up the conventional path. Once their off the beaten path approach got them to the top they were labeled Tastemakers. Fuck the yellow brick road! They were unashamed to proclaim they were the best in their particular field even before they were able to prove it. Once their brazen arrogance was known far and wide their achievements spoke for them. Fuck humility! When everyone told them that they’d never make a dollar doing their “hobby” they laughed straight to the bank. Fuck a business plan!

If it doesn’t pay your bills, if you don’t shit it and if it doesn’t keep you warm at night then…

…forgetaboutit. ALL you need is ONE basket to put your eggs in! What basket are you going to put your eggs in? Really? You don’t have A BASKET? You’re more worried about having many pots on the burner? That’s right. I totally forgot you’ve been a CEO and you are now a mogul in the making. You’re already moonwalking on the sun aren’t you? In fact, you announced in October to the world that 2011 will be “your year”. We saw that tweet and we didn’t believe you because we saw the one about 2010 in September of 2009! 2011 will come and go like 2010 has. Next year, you’ll wait until November to claim 2012 as “your year”. As December 21, 2012 approaches you’ll hope it is just another day on plant Earth so you can claim 2013, too. Of course you keep adding water to those boiling pots because you’re attention is focused on a diverse set of goals making you blind to the fact you have no basket much less eggs. Eyes wide open…

…they pimp you hard! The carrot is only as far as 1.1.20__ or is it?

There is nothing golden about the moment when we find ourselves exclaiming, “Happy New Year,” other than being alive to see another calendar year. Just like buying that new car didn’t make you any happier, moving to that new spot didn’t change your outlook on life and how diverting focus anywhere but inside won’t change you. Ever. Stop chasing carrots and look INSIDE your heart where there is a passion that is 24 Karat gold! An authentic passion that is practically 100% pure that’s always been inside of you waiting to be excavated. You understand that what is pure is fragile, what is fragile is less durable and since your passion is PURE it is fragile. Precisely. That is why you made that list of resolutions so long. Lesser materials (goals) make your gold (passion) stronger, more durable, more pliable, more wearable. If you can wear it “they” can see it glitter!

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Yup. That’s exactly the pill those living their passions expect you to swallow. Before you pop that pill…shoot this in your vein…the two in the bush are nesting…laying eggs. Don’t you need eggs for your basket?

I hope you spend the rest of December and all of this winter weaving yourself a big sturdy basket because come spring the bushes, trees, and mountain sides will be full of birds laying eggs. What I hope most for you is that you realize that no matter the season…

…holding onto a bird (dreaming) is for those who can’t…hunting and gathering (doing) is for those audacious few who can…
